Past performance
An audit of Purko Development Trust was conducted for the period 1st January 2009 to 31st December, 2016. Excerpts from the report are presented below.
The table below shows revenue receipts from the sale of products between the year 2009 and 2016.
Further, the audit established that in the 2015/16 farming season 10,072 bags of wheat and 6,000 bags of barley were harvested. This was expected to generate revenues of approximately KES 29.7 million for wheat and KES 18 million for barley. However, due to mismanagement, only KES 17.62 million for wheat and KES 2.68 million for barley has been accounted for in the Trust’s financial records.
As at 2017, farming activities occupied 135 acres of the Entiani land (Tipis Area). 60 acres is used to cultivate wheat, 20 acres is under peas and potatoes, and 55 acres for barley. The Trustees are of the opinion that the land is currently being under utilised, therefore the project is not adding any value to the Purko Community. It is on the basis of this that the Trust intends to increase the land under cultivation to 2,100 acres starting from the 2018 planting season. This will be utilized as follows: 500 acres of wheat, 1,500 acres of barley, 50 acres of peas, and 50 acres of potatoes. The remainder of the land will be used for grazing and growing of pasture such as Boma Rhodes, Oats, Napier grass and other varieties of grass.
The tables below give the historical trends on livestock population at the farm.
